The Mid-Week Shellacking - June 25th, 2003

Last week I asked my loyal readership for the meaning of the word "shellacking" and I got overwhelmed with one response. Bill from Canada got the correct answer with the meaning being: to defeat utterly. Way to go Bill. I promised in the shellacking that whoever answered it correctly would get their name in the bright lights here at TheSmartMarks.com and Bill gets that honor. Bask in the glory Bill.

This week’s challenge is for you the readers to find me a place where I can get a new copy of Robot Jox. I love that movie and want to do a review for TSM.

My movie pick of the week for you all to check out is Meet The Feebles which is directed by Peter Jackson who also has directed the Lord Of The Rings Trilogy, Bad Taste and Dead Alive. This movie is pretty much Muppets gone hardcore. Vietname flashbacks, orgies, cheating, murder, drugs, and porno all done with muppets. Good stuff.

Yesterday during the Smackdown tapings a girl apparently took a cane shot to the face when Vince McMahon threw a cane into the audience during an angle with Zack Gowen.

The girl apparently wasn’t seriously injured and was taken along with her boyfriend backstage and probably given all types of goodies. Next time you are at a show, make sure to stick your head in the way of the next chair shot so you can go backstage and tell Triple H how to work. (Credit to 1Bob.com)

The ratings for RAW are in and the show ended up doing a 3.9 with a 6.3 share, which is down from the 4.1 of last week.

However that is a little misleading since the RAW first hour did quarters of 3.0, 3.4, 3.7 and 3.7 and the second hour did quarters of 4.5 (Foley Tribute), 4.0, and then 4.1 for the final two quarters with a 5.0 overrun.

Something tells me people WERE interested in the Kane – Triple H match but given how there is no better news than bad news and given how bad news generally means more website hits and more pop-up ads, some people where quick to crap on the build for the match.

Perhaps certain people (Dave Scherer) should wait until the quarters come out before proclaiming the Kane angle to be a disappointment. (Credit to 411wrestling.com and whomever they stole their news from)

USA's The Monk beat out RAW for first place with 5.43 million viewers compared to RAW's 5.41 million watchers. (Credit goes to ME! I found it... me... all mine!)

Non-spoiler Smackdown match listing:

John Cena VS Orlando Jordan

The Undertaker and The APA VS The FBI

United States Championship Tournament: Matt Hardy VS Rikishi

WWE Tag Team Title: Sean O'Haire and Roddy Piper VS Eddy Guerrero and Tajiri

Ultimo Dragon VS Shannon Moore

Kurt Angle, Mr. America, and Brock Lesnar VS Shelton Benjamin, Charlie Haas, and the Big Show

I am so Tivoing this show for Ultimo Dragon's debut and I can't wait for Mysterio vs. Ultimo again. If O'Haire can get a decent tag partner I could really dig a tag team managed by Piper. I think he would be perfect in that position.

Non-spoiler Velocity match listing:

Billy Gunn (w/ Torrie) VS Kanyon

A-Train VS Kevin Knight

Spanky VS Xavier

Chris Benoit and Rhyno VS the Basham Brothers (w/ Shaniqua)

What the hell are Benoit and Rhyno doing on Velocity? As much as I admire Zach for his one-legged skills, I don't think he is worth busting Benoit and Rhyno down here to Velocity. And before you nitpicking bastards get up in arms about that last paragraph... yes I know it's Vince's doing and Zach doesn't have a say in it.

Non-spoiler Heat match listing:

Rico vs. Tommy Dreamer

Val Venis vs. Roman

Steven Richards and Victoria vs. Trish Stratus and Goldust

Well Heat looks craptastic outside of the mixed tag match since the women seem to work harder then the men. Especially Trish.

Welcome to the Random News Section that no one really cares about but it makes this report longer and keeps Dame's wrath away from me section.

Pete Gas was in the audience at the Smackdown tapings on Tuesday and visited backstage and posed with fans. Somebody actually WANTS a picture with PETE GAS.

Rob Van Dam will be opening a comic book store in LA in the next couple weeks.

Wrestlemania XX tickets will go on sale September 27th for the event at Madison Square Garden.

In other wrestling news it looks as if the felony charges against Steve Corino have been dropped in regards to the fraud charges he was facing. (Credit RFvideo.com)

There is article on Zach Gowen on USA Today that you can read by clicking here.

Shane Douglas runs his mouth about everyone that screwed him over in the business (but probably doesn't mention the multitude of bridges he has torched) and you can hear it here.

That is pretty much it for this edition. I got nothing left.

Send me feedback here.
