One of the essential films of the 1990s, Mike Leighs brilliant and controversial Naked stars David Thewlis as Johnny, a charming, eloquent, and relentlessly vicious drifter in London. Rejecting all those who would care for him, the volcanic Johnny hurls himself into a nocturnal odyssey through the city, colliding with a succession of the desperate and the dispossessed and scorching everyone in his path. With a virtuoso script and raw performances by Thewlis and costars Katrin Cartlidge and Lesely Sharp, Leighs panorama of Englands crumbling underbelly is a showcase black comedy and doomsday prophecy, and was winner of the best director and actor prizes at the 1993 Cannes Film Festival.

Major Dundee (The Extended Version)
Synopsis:
An offbeat Western adventure film about a Union officer in charge of a jail in the Southwest. Renegade Apaches attack an Army outpost, killing everyone and the officer leads an expedition against them. The prisoners become part of the Union troops.
Sam Peckinpah's first big-budget film was also the first to be taken away and released in a shortened version. Now, 40 years later, most of the missing footage has been located and reinserted with the entire soundtrack remixed in 5.1 Dolby Digital, and a completely new score composed. The new scenes complete the electrifying depiction of an oppressive Union officer who leas a squad of Rebel prisoners, ex-slaves, and criminals into Mexico to hunt down a band of murdering Apaches which raises the question: who represents a greater threat?

Cowards Bend the Knee
Synopsis:
Adapted from a ten-part peephole installation, Cowards Bend the Knee is jam-packed with enough kinetically photographed action to seem like a never-ending cliffhanger. In this twisted and poisoned wish fulfillment, director Guy Maddin casts 'himself' (actually, Darcy Fehr) as a hockey sniper made lily-livered by mother and daughter femme fatales, and resurrects his father as the team's radio broadcaster and his own romantic antagonist. Set in a shadow-suffused hockey arena and a Mabuse-like beauty salon-slash-abortion clinic, the plot drips with Grecian formula, as sordid family secrets spawn unintentional murder most foul. This Special Edition features six new short films by Maddin created especially for this DVD release.

Produced at the height of the Vietnam War, Emile de Antonios Oscar-nominated 1968 documentary chronicles the wars historical roots. The savage and horrific images speak for themselves in perhaps the most controversial film of de Antonios career, and the film he cites as his personal favorite.
Best Price: $17.96 @ DeepDiscountDVD.com
The Features:

Monumental: David Brower's Fight For Wild America
Synopsis:
From the moment David Brower first laid eyes on the beauty of the Yosemite Valley, he fought to preserve the American wilderness for future generations.
The story of a true American legend, Monumental documents the life of this outdoorsman, filmmaker and environmental crusader, whose fiery dedication not only saved the Grand Canyon but also transformed the Sierra Club into a powerful national political force, giving birth to the modern environmental movement.
Seen through Browers own eyes, he was an accomplished filmmaker, and his stunning footage is included here, a 1956 raft trip down Glen Canyon, before its damming, evokes the awful sadness of losing public land weve failed to protect. And in period footage of Browers early rock-climbs, done in sneakers, and of his training in the 10th Mountain Division, who defeated the Nazis in the high Alps, Brower emerges as an unlikely and inspiring national hero.

Interview with former Secretary of Interior Stewart Udall

Point Of Order
Synopsis:
The art of political theater was first introduced into Americans' homes when television cameras captured 188 hours over six weeks of the 1954 Army-McCarthy hearings. Director Emile de Antonio was able to acquire and assemble the footage from those landmark broadcasts to create Point of Order, one of the most riveting and seminal documentaries ever made. A devastating portrait of the legendary Senator Joseph McCarthy, this extraordinary Cold War-era film is the definitive documentary about television's coming of age, and its burgeoning role in exposing the abuse of power.
