Old School Wrestling Superstar Challenge (May 27, 2006) from the Joyce Center in South Bend, IN
10:00am: Gordon Solie welcomes us to the show and briefly goes over the brackets for the World Title tournament through the end of the first round.
Jamie Noble Hulk Hogan----------Hulk Hogan
Andre the Giant-----Andre the Giant Billy Kidman
Ted DiBiase---------Ted DiBiase Jim Duggan
Dino Bravo Don Muraco---------Don Muraco
Greg Valentine------Greg Valentine Paul London
Butch Reed Randy Savage-------Randy Savage
Sakoda---------------Sakoda Bam Bam Bigelow
Rick Rude Jake Roberts---------Jake Roberts
10:01pm: One fall with a 10-minute time limit: "Hacksaw" Butch Reed vs. Bradshaw
Referee Tommy Young checks both men before the bell for weapons, which Reed immediately protests. He argues with Young until he hears the bell, then turns around, only for Bradshaw to nearly decapitate him right off the bat with the Clothesline from Hell.
Winner: Bradshaw via pinfall (:08).
10:04pm: Reed immediately storm the interview area, and he is irate, claiming that the search is proof that he's being unjustly persecuted by OSW management, in particular the commissioner.
10:07pm: One fall with a 10:00 time limit: Jamie Noble (w/Nidia) vs. Marty Jannetty
Two men with contrasting styles collide, as Noble targets Jannetty's leg for the bulk of the contest to keep him from using his aerial tactics. Jannetty catches noble off-guard with a superkick, but the knee buckles, enabling Noble to quickly take advantage and lock in a leg scissors for the submission.
Winner: Noble bi submission (2:08).
10:11pm: Commissioner Paul Heyman makes his way to the interview area, wishing luck to the remaining eight wrestlers in the tournament. He also announces next week's featured match: Ultimo Dragon vs. Tajiri in a lumberjack match "to settle their feud once and for all".
10:14pm: World Title Tournament Quarterfinal Match with a 20-minute time limit: Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant
Essentially a fight from the word go, with neither man gaining any sort of extended advantage. Andre eventually begins chopping Hogan's chest, the force of which send Hulk crashing through the ropes to the floor. Hogan trips up Andre and drags him to the floor, and the two men begin brawling down the aisle.
Result: Double countout (5:44; both men eliminated from the tournament)
10:22pm: Solie shows us the updated brackets:
Jamie Noble Hulk Hogan----------Hulk Hogan ---Double countout Andre the Giant-----Andre the Giant Billy Kidman
Ted DiBiase---------Ted DiBiase Jim Duggan
Dino Bravo Don Muraco---------Don Muraco
Greg Valentine------Greg Valentine Paul London
Butch Reed Randy Savage-------Randy Savage
Sakoda---------------Sakoda Bam Bam Bigelow
Rick Rude Jake Roberts---------Jake Roberts
10:23pm: Solie then interviews Ted DiBiase, who is laughing his head off that "when" he beats Don Muraco next week, he'll automatically make the finals of the tournament.
10:26pm: One fall with a 10-minute time limit: Owen Hart vs. Paul London
Both men shake hands before the opening bell, then engage in a simply stunning display of scientific wrestling and aerial ability. Late in the match, Owen takes to the top rope and flies, missing a splash as London just barely rolls out of the way. London then makes his way up to the top rope, but he misses the attempted shooting star press. Owen gets to his feet and goes for the sharpshooter, but the bell rings before Owen can turn him over.
Result: Time limit draw
10:38pm: Don Muraco heads to the interview area, and he informs Ted DiBiase that if he thinks he's got an easy shot to the finals next week, he's got another thing coming. DiBiase then attacks from behind, driving a double-axhandle to the back of his head before using a swinging neckbreaker to bring him to the floor. The show immediately comes to a standstill, as the interview area is set up near the aisle and they're trying to keep the area clear for an ambulance.
10:45pm: In an attempt to waste time, a pretaped promo from Tajiri and Freddie Blassie runs to hype next week's match with Ultimo Dragon.
10:48pm: EMTs finish preparing Muraco, using a stretcher to load him onto an ambulance.
10:50pm: A pretaped promo airs from Jake Roberts, who is in action next week.
10:53pm: One fall with TV time remaining: Akio (w/Freddie Blassie) vs. Billy Kidman
Akio is in complete control early, using his martial arts skills to keep Kidman at bay. However, Akio misses the attempted handspring elbow in the corner, and Kidman is back in control. Kidman takes Akio down with a Rydien bomb for a near fall, then ascends to the top rope. Blassie reaches his cane toward Kidman and catches him in the knee (completely behind Nick Patrick's back). Kidman falls to the mat, and Akio quickly covers for the pin.
Winner: Akio via pinfall (3:17).
10:58pm: Gordon Solie informs us briefly that we have no word on Muraco's condition, and that at this point it isn't clear if Muraco will compete as scheduled or not. Fade out.
Feedback to the hotmail address as usual.
